Area law enforcement agencies will be increasing their presence again in another upcoming sTEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) initiative over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend. The Iowa Department of Public Safety and the Iowa Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau are urging all celebrants to find a safe way home during operation “Designated O’Driver.” Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, Lt. John Cretsinger, explains the purpose of the sTEP programs.
Statistics have shown that St. Patrick’s Day has been one of the most deadly driving holidays in the country, and Iowa may not have seen any fatalities in 2015, but Cretsinger said the numbers were still high.
There are several ways to ensure that you don’t become one of the accident statistics or one of those counted in the “Designated O’Driver” sTEP program.
The initiative will begin on Wednesday, March 15 and run through Saturday, March 18.
