Next Carroll Council Meeting To Cover Debt Service Levy, Street Lights And Updates At Merchants Park

The Carroll City Council has had two weeks now to review information presented by Susanne Gerlach of PFM Financial Advisors LLC in regard to the impact specific projects will have on the city’s debt service tax levy. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says he expects Monday night’s meeting will provide direction on what projects will or will not be pursued in the short-term.

Pogge-Weaver said he assumes there will be some discussion on how they can limit interest costs by studying how different term lengths of the bonds can help. He said he also predicts they will be looking at what items they will want to put out to a public vote.

He stressed nothing that happens on Monday night will set the referendum or start the projects. It merely is meant to provide a direction to prepare for what could be presented mid-June to be included in an August referendum. Other items that will be discussed include the proposed salary resolution for a 2.75 percent increase for Police Union contracts, 2.5 percent for Public Works contracts and 2.6 percent for non-union employees. The council will also be bringing back the mid-block street light removal discussion and determine whether or not they will remove all, some or none. And a major project in Carroll, the Merchants Park renovation, has neared substantial completion, just in time for spring sports and activities.

Individuals from the Athletic Association and the Carroll County Historical Society will be on hand to discuss historical signage that will be placed in the stadium. The Carroll City Council meeting will begin at 5:15 p.m. on Monday, March 13 in the second-floor council chambers at City Hall. The public is invited to attend.
