J.C. Penney Company Inc. announced today that it will be closing 138 stores across the country and one supply chain facility in Lakeland, Fla. beginning the liquidation process on April 17 with most of the closures occurring in June. The downtown Carroll store is not on the list of closures, but stores in Fort Dodge, Decorah, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa have been slated to close. There will be an estimated 5,000 jobs impacted by this move. Company officials say they are in the process of trying to identify relocation opportunities for leaders and that they will provide outplacement support services for eligible employees leaving the company.
