Merchants Park Renovation Nears Completion And Historical Signage To Be Added

The Merchants Park Baseball Stadium renovation is nearly complete, and Parks and Recreation Director, Jack Wardell, says there are just some minor items that need attention before the first home game.

The Carroll Athletic Association and the Carroll County Historical Society have partnered to create a visual history of Merchants Park that will become a part of the décor. Barry Bruner with the Athletic Association said this is a very important part of the restoration as people tend to forget where these buildings come from and why they are such a cherished part of the community. Vicki Gach with the Carroll County Historical Society and the Preservation Commission says there will be six large displays. They will feature the stadium itself, the teams that have played there, memories from the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) tournaments and one of various flyers and photos of note.

Gach says it took a lot of research and help from the community to get the information, photos and memorabilia together for the signs.

According to Bruner, the Carroll Athletic Association is also working to wrap up other projects at the field, some dependent on the weather. They are expecting to begin working on the press box within the next week, stone pillars in a matter of a few weeks, the fencing in April and the ticket booth is currently under construction at Carroll Lumber and will be moved into place in the next two to three weeks. More photos of the signage are included below.
