Precipitation Observers Needed In Our Area

The State Climatology Office of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the National Weather Service are looking for volunteers to act as precipitation observers across Iowa in the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow network known as “CoCoRaHS” (prounounced “Ko-ko-rozz). Locally, the most critical areas of need include Calhoun, Greene and Audubon counties. All that is required for participation is an interest in the weather, a four-inch diameter rain gauge, a suitable location to set up the gauge and access to the internet. All data collected is immediately available for free online and is routinely used for flood forecasting, drought assessment, news stories, scientific research and general weather interest.
