This is not the first time that rumors have run rampant about the closure of Carroll’s Kmart store, but this time, those rumors are true. Howard Riefs, Director of Corporate Communications for Sears Holdings, says that they have made the difficult, but necessary decision to close the Carroll Kmart store in mid-July. Liquidation of merchandise will begin on Thursday, April 27. Although they are not releasing information on the number of employees this will affect, they are saying that these team members will be eligible for severance pay and will be given the opportunity to apply at open positions with an area Kmart or Sears store. Riefs went on to say this closing is coming after an aggressive strategic evaluation of store space and productivity. Since beginning to announce expected Kmart closing at the end of 2016, they have begun accelerating the process for unprofitable stores. He said they often hear how members are disappointed about store closings, but says their Shop Your Way membership platform is a way to maintain those relationships after the physical location is shuttered. More information about locations that will remain open can be found at www.kmart.com/stores.html.
