This coming Sunday, more than 1,500 Iowans will climb up 1,796 steps and 86 floors as a part of the American Lung Association in Iowa’s 2017 “Fight For Air Climb.” The participants choose to climb one, two, three or all four of Des Moines’ most prominent buildings: EMC Insurance Companies; Financial Center; Hub Tower; and the Ruan Center. They are climbing to raise funds to reach a goal of $390,000 for lung cancer research. According to the Lung Association Executive Director, Micki Sandquist, over 200,000 Americans will be diagnosed with lung cancer this year alone, and more than 100,000 of them will die. That, she said, is unacceptable and we need more research to help find a cure.
