Three Carroll History Day Presentation Groups Advance To State Competition

One Carroll High School (CHS) and two Carroll Middle School (CMS) presentation groups advanced to the state competition after excellent presentations at the Junior/Senior History Day contest last weekend. Over 30 students traveled to Grand View University in Des Moines on Saturday, April 8 to present on topics related to the program’s theme, “Taking a Stand in History.” Each project is evaluated based on historical quality, clarity of presentation and relation to theme. Lauren Kovarna, Maya Haukap and Katherine McCartan made it through the first stage with a display and paper on the influence of the country’s first black Congresswoman, Shirley Chisholm. Alyssa Brant, Mary Perkins, Brittan Pudenz, Samantha Tidgren and Brooke Fortner’s presentation on famed primatologist, Dian Fossey, advanced to the next level of competition. Lily Wiltse and Brooke Reiling chose the start of the Women’s Rights Movement in 1848 at the Seneca Falls Convention for their subject matter, which also advanced. These three groups will present again at the Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center in Des Moines on Monday, May 8. A full list of all History Day presenters can be found below this story.
