The deadline for farm owners to apply for the 2017 Century and Heritage Farm Program is Thursday, June 1. Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Bill Northey, says with the deadline quickly approaching, he hopes those with an eligible farm will take the time to apply. “This program is a great way to highlight the deep history and strong heritage of agriculture in our state,” he says. Eligible applicants will be recognized at the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 17. The Century Farm program, which recognizes farms that have remained family-owned for 100 years, began in 1976 as part of the Nation’s Bicentennial Celebration and has recognized more than 19,000 farms to date. The Heritage Farm program was launched on the 30th Anniversary of the Century Farm program in 2006. To date, there have been more than 900 farms recognized for remaining family-owned for 150 years or more. Applications are available through the links included below.
