One person was injured and there was damage to the Jefferson Fire Department building in a two-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon. At approximately 3:03 p.m., a Jefferson Police officer reported to the intersection of Chestnut and Washington Streets, where a 2015 GMC K3500, driven by Kelly Wilson of Independence, Mo., was northbound on North Chestnut Street. Wilson had stopped at the posted stop sign and was entering the intersection when he struck a westbound 2004 Ford F150, driven by Tim Johnson of Jefferson. The Johnson truck continued traveling west, and in attempting to gain control, Johnson stepped on the accelerator and the brakes at the same time. His vehicle reversed and entered the yard at 100 East Washington Street. It then traveled into the yard at 102 East Washington Street before going back onto the roadway. He continued across Washington Street and struck the northwest corner of the Fire Department. Johnson was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of possible injuries. His truck was deemed a total loss and there was an estimated $2,000 in damage to the Wilson vehicle. The Fire Department building sustained a reported $15,000 in damage to the overhead door and the corner of the structure. Wilson was cited for failure to obey a stop sign.
