A Paton man is dead after the tractor he was driving was struck from behind by a semi-tractor trailer. At approximately 11:21 a.m. on Tuesday, June 6, the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident about 5 miles east of Paton in the 2400 block of 130th Street. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old Patrick Fields, of Paton, was eastbound on 130th Street in a 1965 Farmhall 656 tractor. Also eastbound in a 1996 Freightliner semi was 25-year-old Troy Shaw, of Harcourt. The semi struck the rear end of the tractor and pushed Fields into the north ditch. Fields was pronounced dead at the scene. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Jefferson and Grand Junction Fire Departments and Greene County Emergency Medical Services. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the accident.
