Glidden Opts To Approve Firework Use In Town, But Still Needs To Make It Official

The Glidden City Council indicated at a meeting Monday night they intend to allow fireworks within city limits, but it will be several weeks before the change can make it into the books. Glidden’s policy will closely resemble the state law which allows for the use of fireworks from June 1 to July 8 and Dec. 10 to Jan. 3. City Clerk, Suzy Danner, says she was tasked to develop an ordinance for the council to review at their next meeting.

The city is opting to extend the hours allowed for fireworks by an hour. In Glidden, they will be allowed from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 1, 2 and 5 through 8. On July 3 and 4, fireworks are permitted until midnight. Danner adds they have one more additional restriction.

The new law’s timing has put many cities under pressure to make the appropriate changes, if any, before Independence Day. Danner says that was the case in Glidden as well.

The City Council will not place any additional restriction on the sale of fireworks. As long as a potential merchant has a permit from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and is following the already posted zoning ordinances, no further action is needed from the vendor. The Glidden City Council meets next on Monday, June 26 at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall.
