Shortly after dawn and dusk remain dangerous times for travelers on our rural roads as deer populations are most active during those hours. Two motorists were lucky to escape injury in auto/deer accidents on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning on roadways north of Bagley and west of Jefferson. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office responded to the first accident at approximately 10:39 p.m. Tuesday night on 220th Street near J Ave. A deer had run out into the roadway in front of a 2011 Ford Escape driven by 66-year-old Marilyn Wolfe of Jefferson. There was an estimated $4,000 in damage to her vehicle. Another report came in at about 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday when 68-year-old James Barnett of Jefferson struck another deer on Highway 4 near 330th Street. There was an estimated $5,000 in damage to his 2007 Toyota Tundra.
