A vehicle driven by an underage driver collided with a parked car in Glidden after the engine block detached from its mounts. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 13-year-old Laney Muhlenburg, of Boone, was traveling east on 3rd Street near the intersection of Montana Street in a 2000 Ford Windstar van with the owner and Muhlenburg’s grandmother, Diane Naber’s, consent. The motor’s mount had rusted out which resulted in the engine to fall beneath the vehicle. Muhlenburg claims when this occurred, the vehicle accelerated on its own and did not respond to her attempts to brake or turn. The van ran into the back of a 2005 Dodge Neon, owned by Justin David Weeks, of Glidden. A passenger in the vehicle, Lauryn Wycough, of Boone, was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The Naber vehicle sustained approximately $6,000 in damages and the Weeks’ vehicle is estimated at $4,000.
