Audubon’s Sewer And Wastewater Projects Ahead Of Schedule Due To Good Weather Conditions

Audubon’s sewer system and wastewater treatment have an overhaul in the works with the project already well underway. City Clerk, Joseph Foran, says the city is seeing an influx of people as a result of the construction efforts.

The sewer improvement is being financed through a $4 million United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Loan and a $1.1 million grant. In order to fund the project, the Audubon City Council voted to raise sewer rates by about $25 in January. The project is anticipated to be completed in the next 12 to 18 months. Updates to the wastewater treatment facilities begin after the sewer improvements to finish.

New Department of Natural Resources (DNR) regulations require the city add filter systems to purge E. coli and other potentially dangerous contaminants. Foran adds this method will allow for them to add more pipes through town and provide a higher level of service.
