The 64th Annual Black Hawk Lake Summer Water Carnival in Lake View kicks off this week with a theme of “From Far & Wide, Come Along For The Ride”. The celebration begins Friday, July 14, with the opening of the McDermott Midway beer garden at 6:30 p.m. City Administrator and Carnival Director, Scott Peterson, says this year’s beer garden will have something extra compared to years past.

That band is Maiden Dixie, a contemporary country band based out of St. Paul, Minn. The water carnival lasts until Sunday evening with each day busy from nearly dawn to dusk. Some highlights from Saturday are a 5K road race beginning at 8 a.m. near the west Stone Pier and a bags tournament in the beer garden at 2 p.m. Sunday features a mud volleyball tournament at noon with festivities closing at 10 p.m. with a fireworks display over the lake. The water carnival is estimated to bring about 20 times Lake View’s population into town for the celebration.
