Crawford County Getting New Boat Building For Search And Rescue

The tragic death of 15-year-old Yoana Acosta of Denison, who drowned after the vehicle she was a passenger in ended up in the Boyer River north of Denison in the early morning hours of January 19, has resulted in the development of additional resources for Crawford County emergency responders. Sheriff, Jim Steinkuhler, reports that construction has gotten underway on a new Crawford County Search and Rescue boat building. He says they will be holding a special ceremony to dedicate the boat on Sunday, Aug. 13 at noon. Steinkuhler adds they are hoping for a good turnout and representation from the entire county for this important addition to their services. A free lunch will be served. The water search for Acosta began immediately after her disappearance, but her body was not recovered until Thursday, Jan. 26. The vehicle’s driver, 25-year-old Ramon Hernandez of Denison, has been charged with vehicular homicide, felony drug charges and for providing alcohol to minors.
