Whiterock Conservancy near Coon Rapids is bringing a tradition from the past back to life tomorrow (Thursday) evening with a free community sweet corn boil. The last event of this type was held by Garst Seed Company decades ago. The tradition’s revival begins at 5 p.m. at the Coon Rapids Country Club with sweet corn from Whiterock’s one-acre plot. The meal is available for a free-will donation benefiting the Coon Rapids-Bayard FFA chapter. The corn will be as fresh as possible with members from the chapter picking and husking the corn only hours before the event. POET Biorefining in Coon Rapids generously provided brats to be included with the meal, and drinks with be available for purchase from the Country Club. Depending on interest, Whiterock hopes to make the community corn boil a yearly tradition again.
