Projects in Sac City are starting to move past the planning stage and into reality as the Criss Trust begins to make use of the $5.7 million left to the community. The trust is focusing on four projects at this time, the largest being a new $100,000 shelter house in South Park. In July, the city council granted approval for the building. Sac City Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, says they could be breaking ground very soon.
Also in South Park is a recreational area. The two courts there are getting updated with a playing surface and addition of new fencing, lighting and nets. Lawrence says a new court is also being added.
Criss Park will receive an extensive landscaping overhaul from the trust and is the proposed location for a planned trail system in Sac City. In addition, an aging sign in Chautauqua Park is being exchanged for a more modern electronic one. The city will control what content is displayed on the sign, and through it, citizens will be notified of important dates and times. According to Lawrence, the cost of these projects will not be known for some time.
The Criss Trust was created after a Sac City businessman, John Criss, left nearly $6 million to be used for the beautification of Sac City. The trust is managed by Sac City Mayor, Scott Bundt, Renee Jacobsen and Dwain “Dewey” Reece.
