Carroll Authorities Arrest Motorcyclist After Chase Reaching Speeds Over 100 Miles Per Hour

A motorcyclist led authorities on a high-speed chase on Highway 30 east of Carroll Wednesday night. Chief of Police, Brad Burke, reports that a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle was clocked at 60 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone eastbound on Highway 30 near Bella Vista Drive. An officer attempted to pull the cyclist over for speeding, but instead, he increased his speed to over 100 miles per hour heading out of town. A high-speed pursuit, complete with lights and sirens, ensued, turning north onto Quail Ave. then east again on 180th Street. Eventually, the suspect, Brent Benton, pulled the vehicle into his home at 26857 180th Street, north west of Glidden. An investigation revealed Benton was under the influence of alcohol, registering a .134 Blood Alcohol Content (BAC). He was placed under arrest and charged with eluding, speeding and operating while under the influence, first offense. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
