The Jefferson Police Department and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to the report of a man who was lying in the roadway bleeding at approximately 6:36 p.m. on Wednesday night. The arrived on the scene in the 700 block of South Grimmell Road and spoke with the man, Craig Smith of Jefferson. The officer reported that Smith appeared to be under the influence of a drug and that he became combative with the emergency responders. He was transported to the Greene County Medical Center Emergency room where he was treated, but he continued to be combative, spitting saliva into the officer’s face. Charges against Smith are pending at this time.
