For the second time in two weeks, the Carroll County Board of Supervisors entered into a closed session as the first item on their agenda. The agendas for both meetings stated that the sessions were held under Iowa Code 21.5 “to evaluate the competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session.” After coming out of the closed session today, Chair, Gene Meiners, announced the resignation of Patrick Gray, director of the Carroll County Ambulance Service (Carroll County Emergency Medical Services, EMS).
The supervisors then discussed the process of finding a replacement and what to do in the interim while they search for a new director. Meiners says that two names were brought up as possibilities to act as interim directors, and they would be given the first right of refusal. If neither was interested in accepting the duties, the supervisors would be looking to find a temporary director from outside the organization. Dean Schettler asked Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, about the process for beginning the search.
The supervisors unanimously agreed to accept Gray’s resignation, and have said this change will not have any impact on the ability of Carroll County EMS to continue to provide services to the area.
