A Sac City man has been arrested on misdemeanor drug charges after lab results returned positive on substances recovered during a traffic stop. At approximately 9:44 p.m. on July 9, the Sac City Police Department stopped 23-year-old Casey Herrig, of Sac City, for failing to wear a seat belt. A Sac County Sheriff’s deputy and K-9 unit assisted during the stop. The K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, and a search of the vehicle uncovered a crystalline substance. Herrig was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor, and failure to prove security against liability. The material was sent to the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Criminalistics Laboratory for testing. On Aug. 15, results from the lab came back positive as methamphetamine. Herrig has now been charged with possession of methamphetamine, a serious misdemeanor. A non-jury trial is scheduled for Dec. 12 in Sac County District Court.
