Four-Hour Standoff In Wall Lake Sunday Ends Peacefully

No injuries were reported during a four-hour standoff that ended peacefully in Wall Lake on Sunday. The incident began at approximately 12:25 p.m. on Sept. 10 when deputies from the Sac County Sheriff’s Office located a 32-year-old man they had been searching for since about 9 a.m. who was threatening “suicide by cop” and had made homicidal statements the previous night. The man had barricaded himself inside a Wall Lake home at 406 West 1st St., and when contacted by phone, told authorities he had guns in the building and would force police to shoot him if they did not leave. Law enforcement set up a perimeter surrounding the home and evacuated nearby residents. A crisis negotiator from the Iowa State Patrol was called to assist. At approximately 4:15 p.m., the negotiator convinced the man to surrender. The suspect was taken into custody and transported for evaluation. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Lake View Police Department, Department of Natural Resources, Iowa State Patrol, Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office Special Emergency Response Team, Sac County Attorney and Lake View Ambulance during the incident.
