Authorities Searching For Driver Responsible In Friday Morning CR-B Hit-And-Run Bus Accident

Authorities are searching for the driver responsible in a hit-and-run accident with a Coon Rapids-Bayard Community School District bus Friday morning. At approximately 7:24 a.m., a school bus, occupied by a driver and a single student, was traveling eastbound on 290th Street near the Carroll and Greene County line when it was sideswiped by a pickup truck as the vehicles were cresting a hill. The truck driver did not stop and failed to notify law enforcement of the accident. No injuries were reported, and damage to the bus is estimated at $3,000. The Coon Rapids Police Department is requesting help identifying the pickup involved. Authorities believe the truck is a 1999 to 2006 Chevrolet Silverado and is dark blue to black in color. The truck will likely have driver-side damage and a new or spare tire on the same side. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa State Patrol are assisting in the investigation. Law enforcement is requesting any information related to the accident be reported by contacting the Coon Rapids Police Department at 712-999-5244 or the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at 712-792-4393. Photos of evidence left at the scene can be found included below this story.
