For the sixth time in seven years, Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) in Lake City has been named one of the top 150 workplaces in Iowa by the Des Moines Register. “The Top Workplaces award is not a popularity contest,” says Doug Claffey, CEO of Workplace Dynamics. “And oftentimes,” he adds, “people assume it’s all about fancy perks and benefits. But to be a Top Workplace, organizations must meet our strict standards for organizational health. And, who better to ask about work life than the people who live the culture every day—the employees.” Chief People Officer at SMCH, Holly Espenhover, says that this is the fifth-consecutive of their six awards and each time they are nominated it is a true gift. “Our number one strategic priority is to recruit and retain high-performing staff, and through this recognition, we believe our priorities continue to be in the right place,” Espenhover adds. Workplace Dynamics conducts the employee satisfaction surveys and has a benchmark of 64 percent. SMCH has consistently performed above that at 79 percent of employees having their voices heard through the survey.
