A long-time Lake View resident has gifted $200,000 to Stewart Memorial Community Hospital (SMCH) in Lake City for the purchase of equipment. Delmar Phillips named the hospital as a beneficiary in his estate, and the not-for-profit received notification of the donation when Phillips passed away in February. “His generous gift comes during a key time in our history,” says CEO Cindy Carstens. “As our teams identify ways to do more with less due to changes in the healthcare payment system, we rely on the generosity of many to help meet the needs of our communities.” SMCH has identified an immediate need for a portion of the endowment and the board has approved the purchase of a C Arm, which is used for the diagnosis and treatment of patients needing pain relief. The equipment uses imaging, much like an x-ray, to determine the exact location the patient needs treatment. Phillips and his late wife, Bette, were both dedicated to giving, having committed time and money to their church, the city park board, Lake View Masons, the VFW and the American Legion.
