We are nearly a month into autumn and the Carroll County Conservation Board (CCCB) is ready to celebrate the fall season this coming weekend with Fall Fest 2017. The festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m at the Swan Lake State Park Education Center. Activities include a prairie maze, pumpkin-themed events and crafts. The Carroll County Historical Society will host games which settlers and Native Americans played in the past during the harvest season. Naturalist, Matt Wetrich, says they will be joined for the second year in a row by a special guest organization.
Non-perishable food items include canned goods, granola, pudding and other similar products. Fall is a remarkable time of the year as humans, animals and plants all begin preparations for the cold Iowa winter. Wetrich says autumn has historically been a time of celebration.
Wetrich says they will have a live raptor show for families to enjoy and now is a perfect time to learn more about Iowa’s native birds.
There is no cost to attend Fall Fest 2017. Wetrich does suggest people interested in being there keep an eye on the weather and dress appropriately.
