Passenger Injured In Two-Vehicle Accident At Grant Road And Highway 30 Intersection

A passenger was injured in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 30 and Grant Road. The Carroll Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 5:02 p.m. to assist the injured party and investigate the accident. Upon their arrival, they found the injured man, 53-year-old Johnny Merle Finley of Boone, was a passenger in a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 that was being driven by 55-year-old Eldon Lee Finley of Lohrville. A nurse on the scene came over to assist as the officers checked on the drivers. Eldon Finley told authorities he was traveling eastbound on Highway 30 and making a left turn onto Grant Road. He says he had the green arrow at the intersection, so he did not yield when making the turn. He was halfway through the intersection when he saw a Buick Regal, driven by 24-year-old Tiffany Jean Thooft of Audubon, coming at his vehicle at a high rate of speed. Finley tried to avoid the collision by turning harder left, but was struck in the front side door, directly where the passenger was sitting. Thooft told officers that as she was traveling westbound on 30, the light turned yellow. She would have been unable to stop in time, so she continued through the intersection. Thooft says she swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the Finley vehicle, but was unable to do so. There was an estimated $2,500 in damage to the Thooft vehicle and $1,500 to the Finley truck. Johnny Finley was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of suspected minor injuries.
