Former Kuemper Coach Sanctioned After Audit Reveals Misuse Of Public Funds

Harlan native and former Kuemper High School coach, Chris Cundiff, is facing a suspension of his license and other sanctions after a January audit revealed misuse of bank accounts while he was employed at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines. Authorities have reported that Cundiff will lose his teaching license for a year and will receive a written reprimand for his violation of the state code of ethics. The issue came to light after a parent questioned a 2014-15 fundraising event and where the funds raised were being spent. The audit performed after that complaint revealed two accounts were being managed by Cundiff, who was a teacher and coach at Roosevelt. A basketball account and a booster club account showed nearly $643,000 in unsupported expenses. More than $6,500 was transferred to Cundiff’s personal account, with $2,000 of that transferred back. There were also gift purchases and cash withdrawals. Cundiff resigned his position at Roosevelt in June of 2015.
