More than 300 people made it a priority last night (Thursday) to give back to the Carroll area as they attended the 12th Annual Family Resource Center Fall Affair at The Graphic Edge warehouse, the former Heider Manufacturing building. Volunteer board member and member of the Fall Affair planning committee, Beth Glynn, says attendance was higher than usual, and she believes that is because of the generosity of this community.

More than $33,000 was raised for the benefit of the Clients’ Needs Closet that provides necessary items like diapers, hygiene products and cleaners for area residents in need. Glynn says it meant a lot to staff and organizers to see the people support their mission and to have so many employees of the Family Resource Center be able to attend this year’s event. One of the biggest highlights of the evening was a tribute to founder, Lou Ann Mowery.

Also in attendance was Tim Nichols, who will be taking over as Executive Director after Mowery’s retirement. Glynn says Nichols has been with the center since July, so he has had some time to work alongside Mowery to learn the ropes.

She adds they are looking forward to where he will take the Family Resource Center in the future. Glynn thanked the attendees, the center’s team, their host, The Graphic Edge, and Hy-Vee for putting their heart and soul into the event with their generous donation of food and drinks as well as volunteer workers. Glynn says they will expect the total dollars raised to go up in coming weeks as more donations trickle in from those unable to attend.
