Little Hats, Big Hearts At St. Anthony In Need Of Volunteers

For the third year, St. Anthony Regional Hospital (SARH) has partnered with the American Heart Association, the Children’s Heart Foundation and other hospitals across the state for Iowa’s Little Hats, Big Hearts initiative. The program will provide newborns with knitted red caps during Heart Month in February to raise awareness of heart disease. This is not only the number one killer of Americans, congenital heart defects affect one in every 110 babies born in the U.S. “Little Hats, Big Hearts brings attention to congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in Iowa,” says Pat Hogan, director of the St. Anthony Birth Place. “We are proud to partner with the American Heart Association and the Children’s Heart Foundation to bring the community together in support of local families affected by heart disease, and thank the incredible volunteers who make the program possible,” Hogan adds. With the expectation of delivering more than 3,000 hats to participating hospitals across the state this year, volunteers are needed to help knit and crochet the baby hats. They are also accepting monetary or yarn donations. To learn more about the knitting patterns, participating or donating, follow the link included here.
