Audubon Man Launches Pickup Over Creek During High-Speed Chase Near Willey Wednesday Morning

An Audubon man sent his pickup truck airborne while trying to elude a Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy near Willey on Wednesday morning. At approximately 12:14 a.m., the deputy attempted to pull over 26-year-old Jacob Lawrence Best of Audubon for a traffic violation, when Best fled. A high-speed pursuit ensued, reaching speeds up to 86 miles per hour. Best attempted to lose authorities by driving his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado into a corn field, but he was unaware there was a creek in the middle. He entered the switch grass near the creek then hit an embankment, launching the truck into the air and coming to rest on the opposite side of the waterway, but striking another embankment. Best was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. There was an estimated $4,500 in damage to the pickup. Citations and charges are pending.
