Two men were arrested on drug-related charges in Audubon County over the weekend. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office reports that 27-year-old Cole Jacob Benton of Hamlin was taken into custody at approximately 4:30 p.m. Friday. He has been charged with third-offense possession of methamphetamine, a class D felony. The charges stem from a Nov. 9 incident at his residence in Hamlin. He was transported to the Audubon County jail and released following an appearance before the magistrate. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4. This incident remains under investigation. The second arrest occurred at approximately 1 p.m. Sunday, when 26-year-old Nicholaus Allen Augustus of Carroll was taken into custody. Augustus was wanted on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear for a revocation of probation hearing on possession of methamphetamine charges. Augustus was picked up from Carroll County authorities and transported to the Audubon County jail where he is being held on a $5,000 bond. He was scheduled to appear in District Court today (Monday).
