Sac County Teen Killed Over The Weekend Was True Gentleman. Fundraiser Organized To Help With Expenses And Memorial

A 17-year-old junior at East Sac County High School was killed in a tragic end-loader accident Saturday afternoon near Wall Lake. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office reports they were called to the scene in the 2100 mile of 340th Street northwest of Wall Lake at approximately 12:44 p.m. on the report of an end-loader rollover accident. Ethan Glenn Nissen, of Sac City, was found inside the cab and pronounced dead at the scene. Nissen had been working for Quirk Farms, operating a caterpillar and scooping manure at the time of the accident. Wall Lake Fire and Rescue, Sac County Emergency Medical Services, the Sac County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Game Warden all responded to the scene. The East Sac County High School in Lake View canceled all activities on Sunday and had the guidance counselor available to students and their families on Sunday afternoon. Last night (Sunday) more than 75 people attended a candlelight vigil in the high school parking lot in remembrance of Ethan Nissen. A close family friend, Brad Werner, says that Nissen was an exceptional young man and an example to others. He says he can still picture him as the consummate young gentlemen through one simple gesture he repeated as often as possible.

Werner says that was the type of person Ethan was, and there are just not enough people in the world today who are as conscientious as this remarkable 17-year-old athlete. Werner says the family is in need of help during this time of tragedy. He asked Ethan’s mother, Heather Wagner, if he could organize a fundraiser to help defray the cost of funeral expenses and to let them know that there are people out there who truly care. Werner says he has known Ethan for many years, and says this type of tragedy has hit home for him and for many, many others.

There has been a GoFundMe account set up to help with the funeral expenses and a memorial for Ethan Nissen. Details on how to give can be found through the link included below. Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 21 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the East Sac County High School in Lake View. Funeral services will take place Friday, Dec. 22 at 10:30 a.m.at the same location.
