Iowa Department Of Public Safety Seeking Everyday Heroes

There are people out there who will risk everything for the benefit of others, and the Iowa Department of Public Safety wants to hear these stories as they search for local heroes to receive the Governor’s Lifesaving Awards. They are now accepting nominations for these ordinary, everyday citizens to receive recognition for their extraordinary efforts from the state’s top law enforcement officials. To qualify for the four categories, the incident and the individuals must meet certain criteria. First, the incident must have occurred in Iowa between January 1 of the previous year and April 1 of the current year. Nominees cannot be professionally trained in lifesaving techniques, such as firefighters, doctors or nurses, lifeguards, water safety director or first aid instructors, unless they are retired from these positions. And the life saved cannot be that of an immediate family member. Nominations must be received by April 15 and winners will be honored and thanked by Iowa’s Governor, Lt. Governor and leadership of the Department of Public Safety as well as the Iowa State Patrol at the Iowa State Fair. More information and details on how to submit a nomination can be found with this story on our website.
