All things heart-related are the focus in the month of February, and St. Anthony Regional Hospital is teaming up with the American Heart Association again this year during American Heart Month for the Little Hats, Big Hearts campaign. Originated in Chicago in 2014, the program raises awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the nation. “Each year at The Birth Place at St. Anthony, we deliver more than 400 babies,” says Pat Hogan, The Birth Place director. “We take pride in caring for mothers and newborns, starting with their very first breath. […] And this month, each baby born at St. Anthony will receive a red knitted or crocheted stocking hat to showcase our commitment to the program.” Volunteers through the American Heart Association have made more than 213,000 hats for 880 hospitals in 35 states across the country.
