The Iowa Department of Public Safety (IDPS) has issued a warning to all Iowans to be on the lookout for a scam that uses the names of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Iowa State Patrol. On Thursday, the Iowa State Patrol received reports from citizens that they were getting calls from someone claiming to be with their department and the DCI conducting an investigating into a lawsuit. Authorities say you do not need to report the scam if you receive a call, unless you have lost money. Then you are asked to contact your local police and sheriff’s offices. They also remind everyone that if you get a call from someone trying to collect money in the name of either of these departments, just hang up. These entities will not demand payment via prepaid debit cards. DO NOT provide or confirm any personal or financial information to anyone who calls.
