IDPH Suspends Two Area Paramedics Following Audit

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) Bureau of Emergency and Trauma Services has issued suspension notices to two western Iowa paramedics for failing to comply with continuing education requirements. On Feb. 12, the agency notified Bill Gebhart, of Churdan, and Craig Peterson, of Galva, of their proposal to indefinitely suspend their emergency medical care provider certifications. Gebhart’s notice was delivered following an audit of the 12 hours of continuing education he reportedly took between Oct. 1, 2015 and Sept. 20, 2017. Gebhart was only able to provide documentation accounting for two of those hours. Peterson claimed to have completed 14 hours of classes during that same time but was unable to provide proof of he had attended any. Gebhart and Peterson are both eligible for re-certification upon completion and approval after CPR, AED courses and obstructed airway procedures course and 12 hours of continuing education. Both have the right to request a hearing on the suspension within 20 after receiving the notice.
