Map Of Official Detours For Highway 30 And Grant Road Project Now Available

It is the talk of the town today, and likely will be for months and months to come as the City of Carroll and Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Highway 30 and Grant Road intersection project is scheduled to get underway Monday, April 2. City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, says he knows it has been a long time in coming to this point.

The major work on the project will be taking place on the south side of the highway, and Director of Public Works, Randy Krauel, says they got approval at about 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday to keep both lanes of traffic open on the westbound side. However, the eastbound traffic will be reduced down to one lane over a significant footprint.

The city has developed a map, detailing the main routes they are suggesting for drivers. Krauel says the bigger detours will be the ones on the outer edges of town.

For traffic on the west side of town headed eastbound, Krauel says for both Highway 30 and Highway 71, they will take the traffic southbound on 71 to 3rd Street, then back east on 3rd to Grant Road. Detour routes near the intersection for local residents have also been identified.

On those alternate routes, the city has decided to restrict parking along 5th and 7th Streets. The rest of those roadways will remain restriction free, unless the need arises.
