Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg swept into the Carroll Hy-Vee Thursday afternoon on a wave of positivity. The Republican state leaders were introduced by former Carroll Mayor, Adam Schweers, and it became clear right away exactly why Hy-Vee was chosen. Reynolds says her previous experience has been a foundational piece in the push to get the legislature to work on tax reform. She is supporting measures that will put more money from each paycheck back into the hands of hard-working Iowans.
Reynolds provided the gathered crowd with an update on the work being done in the legislature and the recent announcement by U.S. News and World Report that Iowa is the number one state in the nation. That overall number one spot, she says, is reflective of the people, their work ethic and the values they exemplify.
She adds that we cannot become complacent and we should not be satisfied with the status quo. We have done a lot of great things, but we still have a lot of work to do, she says. Reynolds outlined some of those priorities for the near future. In addition to jobs, tax reform, health care and ensuring we are strengthening rural Iowa we need to continue to invest in our young people.
She adds that average is over $54,000 and there are only three other states in the country that have invested more in education than Iowa. The focus on education and as leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education is a fundamental piece of Reynolds’ Future Ready Iowa initiative that has a goal of 70 percent of Iowans, no matter their age, having completed training and/or education beyond high school by the year 2025. We will bring you more from Gov. Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Gregg on the mental health care and suicide bill, Iowa jobs and other topics in upcoming broadcasts.
