CHS Basketball Coach, Randy Bissen, Accepts Offer To Serve As New Carroll 7-12 Activities Director

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Directors voted Wednesday night on their choice for the new seventh through 12th grade Activities Director. In a unanimous vote, the board agreed to extend a contract to Randy Bissen, a fourth-grade teacher and coach for Carroll. Board President, Jen Munson, says it was a tough decision, but they are confident it was the right one.

Munson adds Bissen had support from their selection committee, which included parents, teachers, coaches, students and community members. In their offer, the board included a provision that will allow Bissen, who is the current high school boys basketball and girls golf coach, to continue coaching one sport. With that provision, Bissen has decided to take the job.

Bissen says he takes the “activities” part of the new job title seriously, and his first goal will be to provide equal support for all of Carroll’s extracurricular events.

Bissen earned his bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista University (BVU) and has a master’s degree from Morningside College. He has a long history of involvement in sports, particularly basketball. He says the lessons he learned from extracurricular involvement have proven invaluable and he wants every student to have a similar experience.

He begins as Activities Director on July 1 and is taking over for retiring Athletic Director, Keith Stribe. Bissen’s wife, Chelsea, is the CHS business teacher, and the pair is excited to remain in Carroll with their three children, Ben, Evy and Jaelea.
