Shortcut Through Carroll County Courthouse Soon To Become More Time Consuming

Patrons and staff of the Carroll County Courthouse have been reporting that there is more traffic cutting through the northside parking lot, and it is becoming somewhat of a safety issue for those trying to cross over to the front doors. Carroll County Auditor, Kourtney Irlbeck, Supervisors and County Engineer, Dave Paulson, have been exploring ways to slow traffic and create a deterrent. The two ideas investigated include the installation of stop signs at the pedestrian crossing and/or speed bumps on both sides. Paulson has found an Iowa company that supplies the speed bumps.

Supervisor, Dean Schettler, says he believes that a more economical solution that could remain in place year round is the use of simple stop signs in the middle of the drive.

He says he doesn’t believe it would cost very much, and Irlbeck says it may be the best place to start.

At the very least, they believe it will help slow traffic down and may even deter some from using the drive as a shortcut. The Supervisors have agreed to move forward with the purchase and installation of two signs and will discuss their effectiveness in the future.
