Teacher’s Workshop Connecting Ag To Core Standards Coming To Manning

The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation and partnering organizations will be offering two-day developmental workshops for teachers throughout the summer. These courses are designed to assist teachers with applying Iowa Core standards, including social studies and science, in the context of agriculture. They will also us ag to teach other core concepts and skills, like language arts and math. These hands-on, interactive classes feature a day of site visits and tours and one day of practical classroom application. “The tour day was one of the best professional development days I have experienced in 23 years,” says Gary McEldowny, a 2017 workshop participant. Real-World Connections for Learning will be coming to Manning on June 7 and June 8. The tours will go behind the scenes at a row-crop and cattle farm, a John Deere dealership, veterinary clinic and specialty equipment business. Producers and other experts will showcase how agriculture uses technology to ensure environmental and economic sustainability.
