Authorities Execute Search Warrants In Connection To Breda Shooting

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office executed search warrants last week on the homes and vehicles of the three men involved in a shooting in Breda. On Thursday, April 12, the same day as the incident, authorities requested warrants for two apartments at 303 North 3rd St. The individuals sustaining gunshot wounds, 35-year-old Andrew Wempe and 39-year-old Jacob Helkenn, both are tenets within that building. Inside Helkenn’s residence, deputies located multiple smoking devices, unidentified white powder, two electronic scales, a baggie of marijuana, police scanners and four mobile devices. Within Wempe’s apartment, authorities found several smoking devices, marijuana cigarettes and unidentified white and brown powders. A search warrant was also secured for a truck owned by the alleged shooter, 48-year-old Robert Morris. Two knives, more than $3,000 in cash and an ammo can containing used syringes were found inside the vehicle. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is assisting the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office in the ongoing investigation.
