One of the men involved in an April shooting in Breda has been arrested on multiple drug trafficking charges. Thirty-five-year-old Andrew Vernon Wempe, of Breda, was arrested on Tuesday, May 15 and transported to the Carroll County jail and charged with two controlled substance violations, class C and class D felonies. At approximately 12:31 a.m. on March 31, a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputy performed a traffic stop near the intersection of 160th Street and Ivy Avenue on a 1998 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Wempe. The car was towed and a search warrant obtained for the vehicle. Authorities located 23.7 grams of marijuana, 2.22 grams of methamphetamine, a digital scale and multiple clear, plastic baggies. If found guilty of the charge, he faces a maximum of 15 years in prison and up to $17,500 in fines. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at the Carroll County Courthouse. On April 12, Wempe and 39-year-old Jacob Helkenn, of Breda, both sustained wounds to their lower extremities after being shot by 48-year-old Robert John Morris, of Carroll.
