A high-speed chase in Cass County, which reached speeds over 110 miles per hour, ended Sunday night with assistance from the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office. At approximately 8:47 p.m., a citizen notified the Cass County Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of Highway 6 and Midway Road. The reporting party told law enforcement the driver had covered the license plate with mud and fled the scene. Police attempted to perform a traffic stop on the 2006 Ford Freestyle, but the driver, 20-year-old Kyle Zenisek, of Solon, refused to stop the vehicle. Authorities made an unsuccessful attempt to use stop sticks to prevent the vehicle from entering Atlantic. The pursuit then continued eastbound on Interstate 80 and ended at mile marker 84 near Casey when a Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office deputy disabled the vehicle using stop sticks. Zenisek was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Cass County jail. He has been charged with eluding, a class D felony, first-offense operating while intoxicated, a serious misdemeanor, fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor, and multiple traffic violations. Zenisek remain in custody at the Cass County Jail. The Atlantic Police Department also assisted in the pursuit.
