Iowa Farmers Seeing Mixed Weather Bag–Extreme Flooding In One Part Of The State And Dry Conditions In Others

Farmers in the state of Iowa seem to be facing one weather extreme to another with flooding in the north and dry conditions in the south. The weekly Iowa Crop Progress and Condition report from the USDA National Agricultural Statistical Service says some farmers got caught up on fieldwork while others could do nothing but sit and watch it rain. Statewide, there was an average of 5.1 days suitable for field work. As of June 10, 97 percent of the corn crop has emerged with 81 percent rated good to excellent, and 98 percent of the soybean crop is now planted, two weeks ahead of the five-year average.
