Tomorrow (Saturday) is the big day for fans of local band, Wild Ambition, as they take the stage at the Harlan Rogers Sports Complex in Fort Dodge at 6 p.m. for Shellabration. The Carroll-area based band is opening for headliners, ZZ Top, playing for around an hour and 10 minutes. The five piece group focuses on selections from a lot of iconic classic rock groups, but lead singer, Leah Preul of Arcadia, says they aren’t necessarily always the songs that got the most radio play. Lead and rhythm guitar player, keyboardist and vocalist, Bill Brown of Glidden, says in playing at larger venues and events like Shellabration and their upcoming opening for Hairball in Jefferson during RAGBRAI, they are able to really have fun and hone in on their very best songs.
And even though Wild Ambition is made up of a group of experienced musicians, Brown says they still had to work hard to get to this point.
Brown and Preul say they want to thank everyone that comes out to watch them play and they are looking forward to seeing a lot of them in Fort Dodge. And Preul adds, this really is a phenomenal opportunity for them.
And even though Brown, who has followed guitarist, Neal Schon, for his entire career, was hoping Journey would be the big band on the ticket for this year’s Shellabration, Wild Ambition’s lead guitar player, Rod Bramble of Newell, is a huge Billy Gibbons fan. He was ecstatic when he got the news that they would be opening for ZZ Top, and he can’t wait for the opportunity to meet the legendary guitar player and lead singer while playing at the same venue. Other members of Wild Ambition include drummer, Bobby Carter of Glidden and bass guitarist, Al Lohr of Lohrville. Select tickets for Shellabration are still available and can be purchased through the link included below.
