Carroll Depot Undergoes Some Necessary Maintenance Work

The historic Carroll Depot building has been undergoing some renovation work over the past several months, with other projects to be completed within the next few weeks. Since May, the Carroll Depot Centre, LTD has been re-roofed and ceiling repairs have been completed and a new front door will be installed soon. The original buildings, designed by Chicago architect, Charles Summer Frost, are of the Victorian Romanesque style and were erected in 1896. They were included in the National Historic Register in 1990. “As with any historic building, time takes its toll and renovations are necessary,” says Barry Bruner, Depot Centre, LTD President. “We’re fortunate to have this beautiful building located in downtown Carroll, and we want to do everything we can to ensure it’s here for generations to come,” he adds. A $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Carroll County was used to support the renovations that were done by Carroll-based businesses, Brincks Exteriors, who oversaw the roofing of the three buildings plus the outside storage shed, and Ragaller Drywall, who completed the necessary ceiling repairs. The Carroll Chamber of Commerce and the Carroll Area Development Corporation (CADC) offices have been housed at the depot since 2007.
